The aim of crown green bowls is simple. You must roll a set of two bowls (or woods) from the hand towards a smaller target bowl known as the jack. Sounds quite easy but the game is played on a specially prepared short-cut smooth grass surface with a raised centre known as the crown. The crown can often be as high as 30 centimetres above the edge of the green. The green has a ditch around the edge, and slopes on all sides from the crown towards the ditch.
A warm welcome awaits anyone wishing to come and have a go for themselves – all you need is a pair of flat shoes. We can provide all the rest of the equipment. We offer an introduction to the game by friendly experienced players and in delightful surroundings.
Our outdoor season starts in late March. The Club offers a mix of Social Bowling, Internal Club Competitions, Friendly Matches and League Fixtures.
Social bowling is at the heart of our club. Reserved times for Social Bowling are 1:30pm until 3:30pm every weekday.
We have an active programme of Friendly matches and Internal Competitions throughout the season. There are events to suit bowlers at all levels and matches are played both at home and at other greens in Sheffield and in Derbyshire.
There is a Bowling Event – either internal to the club or a friendly match against another team - most weekends across the season.
Details of this season’s events can be found in the Download Centre below.
We have teams in competitions run by 4 different organising bodies in the Sheffield area.
Most of the league Fixtures and Results can be found on Bowlsnet.uk - "the Bowling League Network"
After the green closes for the winter, we have an indoor programme including both short mat and long mat bowling.
Other events are also arranged across the winter season including a regular Walking Group.
