The aim of crown green bowls is simple. You must roll a set of two bowls (or woods) from the hand towards a smaller target bowl known as the jack. BUT the woods aren't entirely round and the crown green is not entirely flat. This is the challenge of Crown Green Bowling
It is one of the few sports which can be enjoyed by all. Men often play against women, and youngsters can play against older players in a competitive game.
Why don't you come and have a go for yourself? We can promise you a warm welcome. All you need is a pair of flat shoes - we can provide all of the rest of the equipment
We offer an introduction to the game by friendly experienced players and in delightful surroundings. For further information on the Aim of the Game of Crown Green Bowls, please click here.
Throughout the season, the Club offers a mix of Social Bowling, Internal Club Competitions, Friendly Matches and League Fixtures.
There is a Bowling Event – either internal to the club or a friendly match against another team - most weekends across the season. There are events to suit bowlers at all levels, played at home and on away greens.
Games on the green are booked through the booking system. Please book here.
The latest guidelines for play and arrangements for the booking of matches on the green can be found in the Information Centre.
We have teams in competitions run by 4 different organising bodies in the Sheffield area.
Most of the league Fixtures and Results can be found on Bowlsnet.uk - "the Bowling League Network"
After the green closes for the winter, we have an indoor programme exclusive to FBC members. This includes:-
Short Mat bowling at CDYST on Coldwell Lane on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Long Mat bowling in a city wide league at Graves Health & Sports Centre on Bochum Parkway.
Other events are also arranged - coffee mornings - monthly get togethers in the bar - walking group.
Bowling Holidays have been enjoyed with other clubs in Norfolk, Cyprus and Spain.
